Day One (Optional) – Become a Claremont Local in a Day
Thursday, August 21


8:30AM – Continental Breakfast at I-Place


9:00AM – Depart for Village Walking Tour and Group Activities led by I-Place Orientation Leaders

Tour of The Claremont Village / Local Banks

I-Place Orientation Leaders will lead small groups on walking tours to the Claremont Village.  The tour will feature various practical amenities and services.  I-Place Orientation Leaders will also escort students to nearby banks, if necessary.

Public Transportation Orientation and Bus Trip to Local Shopping Center

Learn more about public transportation in Claremont at the Claremont (Metrolink) Depot, located on First Street between Yale Avenue and Harvard Avenue.

Bus Trip to Montclair Plaza and Target (Local Shopping Centers)

Hop on a bus to a local shopping center for lunch and shopping.  Students may return to I-Place at any time. (One round bus trip ticket provided for each student, compliments of Foothill Transit.  Please bring additional money for lunch and shopping.)

4:00PM – Last Bus Trip Back to I-Place

All groups should head back towards I-Place.  Groups may return to I-Place earlier, if they wish.


5:00PM – Host Family Pick-Up at I-Place – for those students participating in the Host Family Program



Day Two – On Campus Program
Friday, August 22


This day includes breakfast, lunch and snacks at no cost to the student/scholar.


8:00AM – Edmunds Ballroom, Smith Campus Center (Pomona College Campus)

Issues covered will include: International Place Services, Immigration and Legal Issues, Health Care and Medical Insurance, Academic Success and Resources, Financial Readiness and Budgeting, Cultural Adjustment and Social Issues. Additional resources for international students and scholars will also be featured.


11:45AM – 1:00PM – Lunch and visit to Huntley Bookstore.

Lunch will be served, compliments of I-Place.   Any extra time may be used to visit Huntley Bookstore, on campus.


1:00PM – 3:30pm – On-Campus Program resumes

The Colleges from the student perspective.  Engaging sessions led by returning students.


5:00PM – Host Family Pick-Up at I-Place – for those students participating in the Host Family Program


The end of this day marks the end of the New International Student and Scholar Orientation 1.  Students should refer to materials provided by their college for further information on Residence Hall Move-in and college-specific orientation programs.



Parents Welcome Dinner
Special Event for Parents and Other Family Members
Tuesday, August 26, 6:00 pm


Community Friends of International Students (CFIS) invites parents and other family members to join with other accompanying international parents and families for a casual dinner at the home of one of our host families (this event is not for students).  This event will give you a wonderful opportunity to learn more about International Place and CFIS, meet other international families and spend a relaxing evening with members of the local community who support I-Place and international students at The Claremont Colleges.  Click here for location details.  Please RSVP here.



Welcome Picnic
Wednesday, August 27, 5:30 pm


All new international students and scholars, their friends, families and host families are invited to join us as our special guests for the Annual Welcome Picnic on the Jaqua Quadrangle, Scripps College.  Communty Friends of International Students hosts us as we welcome new international students and scholars to The Claremont Colleges.

Tuesday, September 2, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm


Join new and returning international students and I-Place staff for Food, Drinks, and Music from around the world!!!  Bring your friends, roommates and residence hall mates!
